November 6, 2017 – Save the Children recently released their report, Fighting for Breath, which urges stakeholders to focus on the prevention and treatment of childhood pneumonia worldwide.
A LiST analysis included in the report estimated that continuing current progress will not be adequate to reach global targets set for the reduction of child deaths due to pneumonia. With a “business as usual” approach, there will still be an estimated 735,000 deaths due to pneumonia in 2030. However, with universal access to pneumonia treatment, improved vaccine coverage, and better childhood nutrition and breastfeeding, approximately 5 million lives could be saved by 2030.
